Eleanor I. (Melone) Ritota, 85, of Franklin, MA and Naples, FL, died peacefully, Thursday, November 21, 2013 at St. Patrick's Manor in Framingham, surrounded by her family following a short illness. She was the loving wife of the late Roy M. Ritota, who preceded her in death in 2005. They have been reunited to celebrate their 61st wedding anniversary on Friday, November 22, 2013.
Born in Cranston, Rhode Island on October 3, 1928, a daughter of the late John and Raphaella (DeAngelus) Melone, Eleanor was a former resident of Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, and Florida before moving back to Massachusetts 5 years ago.
She was raised and educated in Cranston, and was a graduate of Rhode Island College, where she received a degree in Education. She worked as a 2nd grade teacher in Rhode Island before she and Roy were transferred to Africa by Texaco Inc.
Eleanor was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, as well as an avid Rummy player who enjoyed crossword puzzles and loved cooking big Sunday dinners for her family.
She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Naples, FL and St. Jude Church, Norfolk, MA.
Eleanor is survived by her children: Christine Wilson and her husband Larry of Lake Wylie, SC, Ellen Schaefer and her husband Kurt of Medway, Elizabeth Tirrell and her husband Jay of Naples, FL, & Susan Bycoff and her husband Darren of Needham, a brother John Melone, Jr. of Cranston, RI, 2 sisters, Christine Curren of North Attleboro and Irene LaMontagne of Narragansett, RI.
Also surviving are her grandchildren: Kerrie Thomas, Katherine Schaefer, Matthew Wilson, Michael Schaefer, Alexandra Tirrell, Abigail Tirrell, John Tirrell IV, Madeline Bycoff, and Amelia Bycoff.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral Mass Saturday, November 23rd, at 11:30AM in St. Jude Church 86 Main St. Norfolk, MA 02056. A private interment will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne on Monday.
